Manual transmissions without a clutch pedal are not new, but they are pretty rare. I remember driving a friend's VW Beetle in the seventies that had a two-speed no-clutch-pedal manual. I think they called it a "semi-automatic" at the time. It was actually pretty cool and wrung a lot better performance out of the meagre engine than an automatic would have.

the car I first drove when I was 16 was a 1951 Desoto and it had a clutch that was just used to go into reverse or to use a very low forward gear and otherwise for normal driving you used the clutch to get in that gear and once you got going at about 10 mph you lifted off the gas pedal and the car automatically went into the high gear and if you had to stop for a stop sign of light you just put your foot on the brake and never had to use the clutch and then you pulled away the same way as you started and never had to use the clutch...and I believe it to was called a semi-automatic....it's funny I think Ford is now trying to Patten their version of a clutch-less transmission.
The little Smartcar ForTwo has a 5 speed electric automated manual transmission. Made by Getrag.

Good read on the Ford transmission...
And for those that may be interested, some history on the automated manual transmission...
And that Version is only for India. I wonder how it really performs since it is paired to a 1.0 Liter Engine.

Looking at the Reported Sales the Venue is more popular in India than in other markets. Might be due to Price/Quality and Versions offered.

In India, there are tax advantages to driving a car that is less than 4 meters long. The Venue was designed to come in just under that limit.
This is a great video that explains IMT, DCT and IVT.
