Bike Rack Options?

321 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Christian Antalics
Hey all - we're looking to get a bike rack for our Venue.

I've looked around a bit and seen the trunk options, which we aren't too keen on, but I also see some roof rack options - is there a specific type we should look for? Our Venue does have the two rails running along the top. We'd be looking to be able to transport two bikes.

Appreciate any advice or help. I've only ever done hitch-mounted stuff before, so this is brand-new to me.

Search in the forum for "Bicycle Hitch Rack!".

I bought an Allen Sports 3-bike model off of Amazon that fits into a 1-1/4" receiver.

We don’t have a hitch.
We don’t have a hitch.
Get one. That’s what I did. I ordered a 1-1/4” hitch and had my local mechanic bolt it on.

Yep I agree about the hitch. It will be a lot easier putting bikes on/off a hitch rather than on top of the Venue. It's small but still an SUV/crossover so it's taller than sedans. I'd still get some cross rails for it for other items like ladders, storage pods, kayaks, etc.. Or if you really hate the hitch idea, I'd look on etrailer.com and compare the various cross bars to get some beefy ones.

Amazon has some for $90 -- not sure they're beefy enough for bikes, but then again modern bikes are pretty light.

This is what I put on (www.etrailer.com) and it looks and performs great. I paid a local shop to put the car up on the lift to put it on ($150?)

Here is the rack I bought:

Allen Sports Deluxe Locking Quick Release 3-Bike Carrier for 2 in. & 1 4 in. Hitch, Model 532QR, Black

I like the rack and I can jam up to four bikes on there (two are kid's bikes).
