Car randomly fails to heat up

I own a 2021 Venue SE with auto transmission and just over 5K miles. Recently, it will occasionally fail to heat up while driving a significant distance. No heat comes out off the heater and the temp gauge does not move off "C". I can sometimes "cure" this issue by stoping, turning the engine off, then restarting the engine and it will perform normally and the temp gauge also works. If this were one of my old classics, I'd pull the thermostat and replace it. With the Venue, I have to wonder if it's tied to the computer do I actually have a defective thermostat, or even some other issue.? I imagine that if it heats up normally when I take it to the dealer, they'll send me on my way with a "come back when it malfunctions again". With the problem being intermittent, it's a crap shoot as to when it will act up at the dealers shop.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue with their Venue. If so, that would assist me when I visit the dealer in the near future. Thanks in advance of any info on this problem, I appreciate it.

it wouldn't hurt to go and talk to the service guy about it and ask if they've run into this before especially if the problem is not happening when you go there, and like most auto manufactures, they will have a data base of problems so they can get an idea if a recall is needed and if your trouble is happening by others and what the fix is for it.

the reason I say to go and not just phone them is that a face to face is far better then phoning and getting someone who is not qualified and actually cares...over the years I've found by doing a face to face more questions and answers go a long way and every time I got results...the dealership might do a reboot on your computer if he or she has never seen this before or maybe a reboot is the fix.

Thank you, 1947. I agree with everything you suggested. Face to face is the only way to deal with issues like this. I'm only 20 min' from the dealership so Monday or Tuesday, I'll pay them a visit to hopefully make some progress. I will post updates and a final resolution for all to see as I track down this issue.
I agree with Venue1947, take it to the dealer and have them fix the issue.
In many cars if the coolant temperature sensor fails or gets intermittent, the system will err on the side of caution and stop sending coolant temperature signals and might run the cooling fan all the time to protect from overheating, since it doesn't have a reliable reading of engine temperature.
As far as "thermostat" that's been replaced with the Integrated Thermal Management Module (ITM).

Thank you, imaddicted, I appreciate your thoughts and recommendation.
I made an appointment for the Venue at my local dealership. The earliest I am able to get the Venue in for service is April 11th. When I explained the issue, the "service advisor" asked how far I had driven the car when it didn't heat up. DAH! That really pissed me off as I've owned over 60 cars in my life and was tearing them apart for repair as early as 1957! I do understand that engines take a while to warm up, especially during cold Iowa Winters. Typically my Venue warms up in 5 minutes or 2-3 miles from home, even on days when the temp is in the single digits. I explained it did not warm up on 30-40 degree days after 30 minutes of driving, then stopping the engine and restarting it typically corrected the issue. Oh well, intermittent electrical defects are the vain of owning a modern car so I'll keep after them!

I'm like you and have only used a dealership for warranty work, and only used a repair garage for things like tires and things like wheel alignments, and just recently for a hydraulic clutch cylinder on my 6 speed manual transmission on my 24 year old Camaro SS that needed replacing and they replaces both cylinders and needed a hoist to do the job.

the thing that I'm seeing is that to get anything done now at dealerships and repair garages take weeks or months to get work done...my Venue is my daily driver and the one it replaced I had for 20 years, so this is the first new vehicle that I've bought in 20 years, and like I say, I do 90% of everything on my vehicles myself and the way the vehicles are built today, it's harder to not just replace stuff but also figure out what is the cause of some problems and which part is to be replaced cause many things are cheaper to replace then to fix. 🤷‍♂️😒
As I promised, I'm following up on my issue with the Venue engine not heating up. For the past week or so this has not occurred on my Venue. I'm not sure if it's because the weather has warmed up, or the situation's corrected itself, or perhaps I haven't used it enough as we has been driving the SantaFe. If it occurs again and I have it serviced I'll post it. For now, until it occurs again, consider this post closed.

could even be a loose connection some where...in my last daily driver my temperature gauge hardly moved off the cold position but I still had heat and it only did it a couple of times and the last time it happened I gave the gauge a firm tap and it never happened again...I had that car for 20 years. 😁
