Hello,

My wife and I are considering purchasing a Venue SEL. We recently immigrated to the US.

We will primarily be driving around in our home town, but would like to drive around the country when the opportunity arises to see more of the US. Say 800 mile road trips give or take.

Will the Venue be fine for longer distance traveling? What are the noise levels like when driving on the free-way?

Thank you.

The Venue is a great city car, which is what I use it for. It is adequate on the wide-open spaces, but I don't know if it would be my first choice if I was going to do a lot of that. Highway noises aren't horrible, but aren't great, either.

I would recommend you take one for a test drive, and be sure to have them take you for a couple miles of freeway driving so you can see what it feels and sounds like.

Excellent information and recommendations from Jake? I own a 2021 Venue SE and we bought it for using around town. I agree with everything Jake posted and would also think an 800 mile road trip would not be the best usage of a Venue. We are probably a bit spoiled because we also own a 2020 Santa Fe limited that is used for road trips. There's night and day difference between the Venue and the Santa Fe on the highway. I fully understand the price difference between the two vehicles ( I paid it) and the fact they are designed to be in a totally different category. My bottom line is, if I were planning to use a vehicle as you describe, I'd spend more money and get something better suited to long range travel.
If a new Santa Fe is beyond your budget, be patient and shop for one that's a year or two old with low milage that has been taken care of. Whatever you decide--Best of Luck!

800 miles isn't really that far in the grand scheme of things. Sure the Venue isn't a comfortable highway cruiser like a larger vehicle would be, but if money's tight I'd say the Venue would be fine.

I mean heck it's a modern vehicle with lane assistance, cruise control, etc.. And it's a hatchback with a roof rack, so lots of cargo room. If your main usage will be around town with just occasional 800-mile trips, I wouldn't be afraid to take the Venue. You will get awesome highway mileage. Especially if it's just going to be 2 people. If there were more people, the rear passengers would get uncomfortable.

So I'd say it's a function of what you can afford, how many people will be going, oh and also how often you like to stop and stretch your legs.

Also maybe step up to the Kona for $2,500 more or the Tucson for $7k more, if you can afford it.

my Ultimate Venue is my daily driver and I've had daily drivers since 1970 because my other cars were vehicles that never got driven in the winter and were high performance/sport type cars...my first daily was a 1971 VW Bug and I put a lot of miles on it, and if you know anything about Bugs from that era, they are not considered as nothing more than poor man's transportation vehicle and I had no problem with the ride etc. for a vehicle of this type, and actually figured dollar for dollar the best vehicle I ever owned...there were other ones between the Bug and my 2022 Ultimate which I love this vehicle, and for the money so far, is now I best vehicle I've bought for dollar for dollar.

Now I'm 76 and I'm the only driver and only passenger for the Venue and I find it very convertible and has a ton of power and wouldn't have any problem driving it from coast to coast [I live in Canada]...the back seat leg room is not the greatest with the front seats all the way back...I drive maybe 3/4 of the way back and would have no problem moving my seat ahead for a back seat passenger because the front floor space actually goes deeper into the front of the car then any other vehicle I've ever had for the size of the car...I love the entertainment center [6 speakers with the Ultimate] which has a very good sound system and when it's on, that is the only noise I hear...the seating has enough positions to allow me to be comfortable and Canadian models have heated seats, heated steering and heated outside mirrors to add to the comfort and driving, and has all the normal safety things that come with my model...another thing I like is the auto lights and auto high beam control which is spot on.

I've been following the Venue since it came out watching road test video's and reading articles on it by the "so-called vehicles reporters" who would say it's a noisy car with no power and only good for the city...these clowns will even compare it to very expensive and very powerful vehicles with things like how fast is it in the quarter mile and the 0 to 60 times, and of course the dreaded CVT transmission which Hyundai calls theirs IVT, and this was the biggest thing I was leery about till I did a test drive and never felt any jerking and never heard any noise coming from it...when the engine is idling and me sitting in the car on my driveway I barely hear it and the engine and of course when flooring it or passing another vehicle I hear it and it has all the poor I need, and I do know a bit about power because of the high performance vehicle I also own now and the past ones as well...and speaking of traveling any great distance, I once owned a 1973 Corvette Stingray and drove it on about a 2000 mile trip down into the US and drove another trip in it from my home here in Ontario to Vancouver BC and back again, and it's not exactly a soft riding car, and I wouldn't think twice of doing the same trips in the Venue.

Like any thing like a vehicle that a person buys, it's good to check off all the things you want in the purchase, and for my needs, the Ultimate Venue is perfect for me...the best thing you can do is take one for a test drive and compare the models for the things you feel you need...to tell the truth, this Venue I have was the only vehicle I test drove before buying it because all the other vehicles I've had and still have were vehicles that I knew had everything I wanted and I knew what I was getting into...for me, probably the number one thing about buying the Venue was having a naturally aspirated engine, which was not to have needed expensive repairs for things like turbos or super charges down the road.

I have a 2021 Venue SEL and drove it 1600 miles round trip with 3 people in the vehicle. Slight discomfort for the person in the back but wasn't horrible. I'd do it a again in heartbeat. Luggage was a bit tough in the cargo area but we made it work.

There was only two of us, so we put the backseat down, loaded up with luggage and took off

The Venue is super comfortable for long trips. I used it for 4 1500km trips and got comfort and great gas milleage. I have a Jeep grand cherokee as well and this is as comfortible plus way better on gas. We tried out the Kia, Honda, Toyota and other similar to the venue and the Venue was best overall.
