Here in the midwest, we have reached the time of year when it is hotter than hell. Personally, I'd just open the windows and let the breeze cool me off, but my woman and my dog are more genteel than that and insist on A/C.

I was curious what this would do to my gas mileage. I've been getting 42 mpg on the highway in cooler weather. Yesterday, I made a long highway trip and averaged 39 mpg with the A/C on full blast. I thought that wasn't too bad: losing only 3 mpg for the privilege of nice cool air. I haven't had a chance to check the effect on city driving yet.

What about the rest of youse guys?

Wife just took a little road trip in East Coast Canada, Nova Scotia to be exact. AC on both ways, drove hard with lots of passing one way, 6.0 L/100km (39.2 mpg) drove fairly easy with lots of cruise control on the trip back, 5.6 L/100km (42 mpg).
