So the other day was driving the #1 in BC between Chilliwack and Langley. This highway is horrible for bumper to bumper traffic. Driving can go anywhere from 100KM > 60> 0 > 60 >0 in seconds. So needless to say I am diligent in watching in front of me so I don't hit the person in front. So on one of these 60>0km times, I stopped and the kid behind me hits me at around 40 km/hr. From the sounds of it I am thinking the whole backend is crushed and the hatch is pushed in. Luckily the person that hit me was in a Jeep Patriot and it was a bumper to bumper hit.

On the outside it looks not bad, it will need a new bumper skin but I am assuming most of the damage is to the bumper bar underneath. The hatch alarm goes off saying it is open or ajar if I don't slam it shut, so I'm assuming there is some frame issues as well....

My insurance came back with $2700 CAD damage. I'm now waiting on the parts to come in. Body shop guy says he is having issues getting Hyundai body parts in lately... So guess we wait.

So the morale is this little SUV can take a punch....

That鈥檚 good to know. Most of the venues I have seen in accidents looked like a folded up paper cup. 馃槼
They're designed to do that -- let the car absorb the pressure instead of the human's spine. Too bad the kid didn't have a Venue instead of a Patriot. The Venue has emergency braking if you're about to hit someone.

OP, I hope your back and neck are OK.

Ya all fine. His Insurance is paying to repair and rental car. Now the problem is in getting venue parts. Body shop said been having issues getting Hyundai parts. So far been 4 weeks and no parts. Bumper skin and backup camera. Wonder if there will be any bumper structural damage once they remove the bumper skin?

There is a radar unit at each rear corner. If they are damaged or have been disrupted in any way, insist they be tested and calibrated by Hyundai. Replace if necessary.

They seem to be working . I was in a parking lot the other day backing up had it go off from both left and right. 3 weeks later waiting on parts. :O
Sounds like they are OK electrically but if any of the brackets were disturbed in any way, the alert may still sound but the coverage patterns might not be correct.
This is from the service manual...
"Diagnosis with Diagnostic tool
1. Rear bumper accident vehicles and vehicles that replaced BCW units must perform BCW unit alignment using Diagnostic tool."
Hope you get your parts soon.

I understand completely.
trying to make a left turn here in Illinois a lady blew the intersection at probably 40 mph hit me at the drivers bumper sounded horrible like you said I thought the whole thing too would be totaled and went out the bumper is moved to the right so it obviously has to be done to collision repair shop but only a few dents of paint is intact that鈥檚 what we were saying he can take a little punch
