Hyundai Venue iMT (Clutchless Manual Transmission) | How Does It Work?

This is a very interesting video that explains the Venue's new iMT transmission (Clutchless Manual Transmission) that's offered in India.

Basically it has an electronically controlled clutch. There's a sensor in the gear lever that sense when you're about to shift it engages the clutch. It also gets the same fuel economy as a manual transmission.

Who knows, maybe we'll see this come over to north america.

Interesting technology, but not particularly new. I remember driving cross-country in 1980 in a VW Beetle that belonged to my college roommate, and it had the same type of semi-auto, two-pedal manual transmission. And that car was old then!

That's right! I completely forgot about that. I'm really interested to see if this tech catches on for Hyundai.

Cool video, thanks! I do remember starting in 2nd a few times, and it took a long time to get up to speed.
