I got T-boned a few weeks ago, just forward of Driver's door. My Venue held up well, I didn't have even a bump. Air bags deployed, all of them. Couldn't get out of driver seat, but crawled over to passenger side and exited.
Cop was a model of efficiency and courtesy. He did tell me that usually airbag deployment totals the car.
Long story short, insurance reimbursed me everything, minus my 1k deductible. Came out to about all my costs.
But my sweet Venue is no more. Insurance sold it to a "salvage" company. Somebody in the know told me that the company will ship the car to a developing country, have the repairs done at super cheap labor rates, and move it into retail. Apparently cars are worth more than lives in some places, so it will get a new title and, and some aspiring person will get a practically new car at an affordable price.
Everybody wins, I guess, me, the insurance company, the salvage company, and the buyer, as long :confused:as the airbags are properly fixed.
Still sad and lonely, one lovely TV ride.

wait, are you the one who was t-boned?thought The OP of this thread is @Littlebluenumber!year
That is me! I thought forum names were used on all replies. I will check this out. As I've said, insurance and loan payments were running 5k a year, but I was only driving 5k miles a year. So I'm still figuring out options.
Great car, seems like every one here loves it.

Thanks for your sympathy. Quite right that the foreign "reconditioners" probably fudge the airbags, I just didn't want libel issues. I also agree that Third Worlders are getting a vehicle with probable 300k life expectancy, great fuel economy, etc. This was my first accident in an airbag equipped car. Of course I was belted, but the bags prevented any bruising, so I was glad to have them. Still, I'd like to think that a nice Nigerian family will be driving a better car than they could have afforded, and that they'll be sensible about seat belts.
