I k ow this was discussed in another thread about putting a bag on the roof for cargo it’s like an Amazon thing or something? We’re getting ready for a long trip like 14 hour. Two kids and two adults. Back seat is kind of cramped for the teenager he’s like 6’4. Wife said maybe move suitcases to the roof with the bag idea but I’ll be honest I’m not crazy a out the bag idea. Not only because of scratching but the sunroof etc. I have roof rails already. I.would need cross bars and a shell. Has anyone done thins? What do the cross bars cost and how much is the cargo shell or the turtle cover as like to call it ;)

The OEM Hyundai cross bars for the Venue is about $300-350 MSRP. I used a Thule roof cargo box with the OEM cross bars for longer travel.

If you're local to SoCal, I'm selling my OEM bars since I have no use for it anymore

That’s not terrible. Thought they would be a little cheaper. I’m not in socal. It any pictures of yours? Have you seen the bag I’m referring to?
Crossbars are listed here:

With something like this you could get away from buying the crossbars, strap it to the roof rack.:

Only part that worries me in the bag is scratching the roof up. I heard some people do like roof liners. And the sunroof as well. Want to be able to maintain usage

I get your point, just throwing out options. The bag comes with a non-slip supposedly non-scratch pad. There is a video in the ad that shows the setup.
I did a 1500KM with a cargo bag from Amazon. Didn't have cross bars but just put strap across front and back for bag straps to attach to. Be prepared to have gas mileage go from 6.5km/100 to 8.5 or 9 because of the drag.
Place anti slip mats on the roof. Can get rolls from the dollar store.
You can get the cross bars off eBay or Amazon for like $70-$100. Here's just one seller. There are like 20 available for sale on eBay.

I'd just put a tarp down to prevent scratches to the roof. I'd put the tarp down, then the storage bag, then run some rope in the eyes of the tarp and through the side rails and cross bars and secure it.
